February 8 - March 9
The STUDENT SUPPORT NETWORK (SSN) is a welcoming, supportive, and safe place for students at the University of Guelph. It is provided through the voluntary efforts of people committed to fostering a comfortable Drop-In Centre, offering new learning experiences and services related to personal development and growth, and assisting people in times of distress.
The mainstay of the Student Support Network is the provision of a welcoming, supportive, and non-threatening environment for students and any other member of the university community who uses the Campus Drop-In (open Mon-Fri, 12:00pm-10:00pm while classes are in session and 12:00pm-8:00pm during scheduled exam weeks). Volunteers are available to discuss concerns with visitors and to assist in times of crisis. In the Drop-In, volunteers speak with clients individually or together (as the visitor wishes), on a drop-in basis only. Assistance is provided by the volunteers mainly in the form of listening, helping to develop a “plan of action”, and providing information about other on- and off-campus services.
A two-semester time commitment is required with an average of 7 hours of volunteer work per week. All volunteers must be able to attend two full days of Core Training on September 4 & 5, 2012 and one 4-hour training per month.
