ARTHattack! Uundergraduate student symposium
Friday, March 19, 2010
ARTHattack is the University of Guelph’s first and only undergraduate art history conference and publication. Founded in 2007, this student-run initiative has quickly risen to become a highly anticipated annual event within the arts program on campus. By providing students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and discuss ideas in an engaging environment outside of the traditional classroom, we hope to contribute to the art history program at the University of Guelph, as it continues to flourish and grow.
This year’s conference will feature six exceptional papers chosen by the university’s art history faculty, on a range of subjects divided into three broad thematic categories. Image will include discussions of Caravaggio and the politics of Baroque Europe, Screen will consider the medium of photography and its various manifestations, and Style will conclude with an exploration into fashion and popular culture. The student presentations will be followed by a keynote lecture by Dr. Gerald McMaster, the Curator of Canadian Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario. The student papers will be compiled in a journal and published in the fall, so be sure to look out for our launch party!
