SlutWalk is a movement that works not only to challenge the mindsets and stereotypes that surround sexual assault, victim-blaming, and slut-shaming but also to assist and inform victims that they are not alone. SlutWalk started in Toronto in 2011, but today has become a worldwide movement. SlutWalk Guelph was created because we see the need to publicly challenge sexual violence and victim-blaming in the City of Guelph and the Wellington area. Being in charge of our sexual lives does not mean that we are opening ourselves to an invitation of violence, regardless if we participate in sex for pleasure or work. We seek to oppose a culture that teaches "don't get raped" rather than "don't rape". Whether a fellow slut or an ally, join us in what you feel comfortable in. We welcome all in this fight. Any gender-identification, any race, any age; singles, couples, parents, sisters, brothers, children, friends. All are welcome.
Starting at Marianne's Park on Gordon St. ending at Market Square (City Hall)
We are protesting against a culture that puts the blame for sexual assault and abuse on the victim, making people, mostly women and those that identify, less likely to report crime and/or reach out for help.
