Maybe I'm too old to go Metric

Tuesday, September 4, 2007

Seriously now, I'm only 22, but I felt quite old on Monday night. Maybe it was because I was helping out with staffing the concert but I think it had a little to do with the fact that I'm not really into Metric. So when the band took stage and all these UofG newbies started jumping around like crazy, my excitement had passed. I thought about how Metric's road manager is Dangerous Darrin Pfeiffer drummer for my favorite band all through high-school, Goldfinger, and how probably no one in the crowd recognized him. This, and the kiln-like temperatures in Peter Clark Hall kept me from really enjoying Metric's set.

That doesn't mean that they weren't good. They interacted with the crowd well, they sweat out pure energy and didn't ditch the crowd without an encore. The volunteer "bouncers" at the front of the stage had their hands full as crowd members strained to reach Emily Haines over the barricades. In all, the nearly 1000 people in PCH seemed really into the concert.

Metric wasn't alone on the bill. We Are Scientists opened the night at around 8:45 and pumped the crowd really well. Again, they interacted well with crowd which is even more important for an opening band. I liked them they had great vocals, decent lyrics and good music wrapped up an engaging package.

I doesn't really matter how you look at it, the two bands put on a great show even if you're too old to really get into it.
