    Benedict XVI

Written by Cynthia Bragg

I am not a student any more but a 58 year old female, but I enjoy reading the commentary on the cannon.

I agree with you. It boggles my mind that so many thousands of people fall at the feet of the Pope whoever he is? For what? What does he do for them? Why do they need him? Why can't they find God on their own? It's like kids who can't bring themselves to leave home. It's easier to be told what to do than to figure things out for themselves. Can people not decide for themselves what right action is, what they believe in?

I also agree that what the world needed was a Black Pope or a South American Pope - to break that white European, MALE supremacist domination, but no such luck. I thought the last Pope was anti-birthcontrol and anti-female priest partly because his mother died when he was young and he had no sisters, no experience of women and their lives, but what excuse do these others have? Women are still supposed to be subservient and obedient to men.

Congratulations on expressing your opinion. It's refreshing in the wake of all those teary-eyed worshippers of the old man at the top.
