Since September 4, 2010 there have been three incidents of hate activity on the University of Guelph campus. All of these incidents have been racist graffiti against the Black members of our community. The Central Student Association would like to publicly condemn this type of behaviour.
We recognize and regret the fact that what might have previously been seen as a safe space by racialized, specifically African-American, students may now be severely compromised. Racism and other oppressive behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. There is no place for it on campus, in your student union, or anywhere. The CSA encourages students, faculty, administration, and all members of our community to unite and fight racism and all other oppressive behaviour in their homes, classrooms, communities, and beyond.
As your student union, we value and work toward a diverse campus, where students can empower themselves not only with their educations, but also with tools to create a world free of oppression.
We pledge our solidarity to all students on this campus struggling against racism and oppression. We are truly stronger together.
