On Campus

On Thursday morning, graffiti of an anti-Semitic nature was found affixed to the door of a student club office located on the second floor in the University Centre. If you have any information about this Hate Crime, please contact the Campus Community Police at Ext. 52245 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-Tips.

In Town

Suspicious Person/Threatening – Guelph Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a male who threatened the gas attendant at a gas station on Speedvale Ave E, last Wednesday at 6:45 pm. The male drove an older model, four door silver Oldsmobile/Pontiac into the gas pumps. The attendant asked the male to put his cigarette out and the male became very irate, yelling and threatening to blow up the gas station. He drove around the pump at a high rate of speed in the direction of the gas attendant. The attendant got out of the way and was not injured during the incident. The male is described as: white, aged 30-40 years, bald with rotten teeth. Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Cst. Carrie Kerfoot.

Missing Child/Located – On Thursday at 12:30 am, the Guelph Police received several reports of a child walking in the area of Victoria Rd and York Rd with a large dog. The area was checked and a 10-year-old female was located on a path just east of Victoria Rd. The child told police she had run away after arguing with her parents and had left her residence on Armstrong Ave. while they slept. The child had stopped at a convenience store to buy water, bread and dog food before heading on to the trail. She was taken home by police and turned over to her parents. Guelph Police thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

Arrest/Over 80 Mgs – On Thursday at 1:45 am, Guelph Police observed a 2004 Mazda grey on Paisley Rd. Officers conducted a traffic stop and the driver failed the roadside breathalyzer. A 27-year-old Guelph female will appear in court in April on the charge of Driver Over 80 Mgs.

Break, Enter and Theft – Occurred sometime overnight on Wednesday the 14th of at the Wet/Dry Facility on Dunlop Dr. A safe, cash box, camera, computers, hard drives and monitors were stolen. The value on the theft in unknown at this time and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Property Crimes Unit.

Arrest -Assault Causing Bodily Harm – On Thursday at 1:30 pm, Guelph Police responded to a disturbance in the area of Neeve St and Wellington St. A 17-year-old male was taken to Guelph General Hospital after he was punched by another male. The youth suffered a concussion and was treated a released. With the assistance of witnesses in the area, police arrested a 17-year-old Woodstock male. He will appear in bail court Friday the 16th of on the charges of Assault Causing Bodily Harm and 3 counts of Breach of Probation.

Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Collision – On Thursday at 8:30 pm, three pedestrians were westbound on Dumbarton St near Langside St. A grey vehicle passed them eastbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle made a u-turn and accelerated toward the pedestrians. It is unknown of the driver was showing off or attempting to scare the pedestrians. The vehicle lost control on a curve, went over a snow bank and struck a 17-year-old female from behind on the sidewalk. The vehicle then struck a tree. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle. The female pedestrian suffered minimal injuries that did not require medical attention. The vehicle is described as: a grey Civic or Neon style car with black low profile style rims. There will be damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. There were two white males in the vehicle, 19 years of age. The passenger had curly black hair. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Jim Gordon of the Traffic Unit.

Motor Vehicle Collision – On Thursday at 4:00 pm, a 26-year-old Guelph male was driving a 1995 Nissan 300ZX at a high rate of speed in the parking lot of the plaza at 666 Woolwich St. The driver attempted to turn into a parking space but due to his excessive speed, the tires started to slide and he was unable to stop. The car mounted the sidewalk in front of the Pharma Plus store, struck a Canada Post mailbox and then went through the window of the drug store. The male left the scene but returned a short time later. He will appear in court in April on the charge of Dangerous Driving. Anyone who witnessed this incident is asked to contact the Traffic Unit.

Break, Enter and Theft – occurred at a residence on Lonsdale Dr during the afternoon of Thursday. Entry was gained by forcing a side door to the residence open. A video camera and jewelry were taken. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Property Crime Unit.

Aggravated Assault-Arrest – On Sunday at 1:00 am, Guelph Police responded to a disturbance in the downtown area of Macdonell St and Wyndham St. An unconscious 22-year-old Mississauga male was taken to hospital and he is remains in stable condition. A 21-year-old Hamilton male is charged with Aggravated Assault.

Arrest – On Friday at 10:40 pm, Guelph Police observed a suspicious truck in the area of Norfolk St and Waterloo Ave. The truck was the property of a St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop. Police found it odd that the truck was being operated at that time of day and it was being driven with no headlights on. Police stopped the truck and the two occupants fled on foot. With the assistance of the Canine Unit, one male was located on Yarmouth St and taken into custody. Further police investigation found that the male was also responsible for a break and enter that had occurred on Monday the 12th. A 27-year-old Guelph faces charges of Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, Break, Enter and Theft and Breach of Probation.

Motor Vehicle Collision-Hit and Run – On Monday at 3:40 pm, a hit and run occurred in the parking lot of Clarkson Automotive, 27 Monarch Place. A parked unoccupied 2000 Honda Prelude sustained major front end damage estimated at $2000. Guelph Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a newer model blue GMC pick up truck with damage to the right side. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Greg Kaut.

Domestic Assault – On Sunday at 5:30 am, Guelph Police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Neeve St. A 20-year-old Guelph female was treated at Guelph General Hospital for a possible concussion and fractures to her nose and cheekbone after she was repeatedly punched in the face. A 22-year-old Guelph male was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, 2 counts of Breach of Probation and Breach of Recognizance.

Impaired Driver – On Sunday just after midnight, Guelph Police received several calls regarding a suspicious vehicle traveling in the area of Silvercreek Pkwy N. The vehicle, a 2005 GMC Yukon truck was observed on Woodlawn Rd by police. A 58-year-old Guelph male was arrested for Impaired Driving and taken to the police station. He was further charged with Refuse to Provide Breath Sample and will appear in court in April.

Impaired Driver – On Monday at 12:20 am, Guelph Police observed a suspicious vehicle on Speedvale Ave E. The vehicle crossed the centre line several times and was subsequently stopped by police. A 49-year-old Guelph male was arrested for Impaired Driving and further charged with Drive Over 80 Mgs. He will appear in court in April.

Impaired Driver – On Sunday at 5:30 pm, Guelph Police responded to the complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Arkell Rd. The vehicle was located by police on Harvard Rd. A 35-year-old Guelph male faces charges of Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80 Mgs and will appear in court in April.

Break, Enter and Theft – occurred sometime overnight on Friday at an apartment on Paisley Rd. Entry was gained through the front door and a lap top computer was stolen. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Cst. Scott Srigley.

Break, Enter and Theft – occurred at a business at 218 Silvercreek Pkwy N at 9:00 pm on Saturday. The suspect(s) entered a vacant premise next to the business and then smashed an interior wall to gain entry. $50, 000 in gold jewelry was taken. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Property Unit.

Arrest-Drive Over 80 Mgs – On Tuesday at 1:45 am, Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop on Norfolk St. The driver of a 1990 Acura black failed a roadside breathalyzer and was subsequently charged with Drive Over 80 Mgs. A 25-year-old Guelph male will appear in court in April.

Break, Enter and Theft – occurred overnight at a residence on Swift Cr on Monday. Entry was gained through the front door. A camera, two video cameras, lap top computer, stereo, CD’s, several crystal ornaments and jewellery were stolen. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cst. Kerfoot.

Motor Vehicle Collision/Arrest-Impaired Driving and Drive Over 80Mgs – Today the at 3:00 am, Guelph Police observed a 1996 Volvo in the area of Yorkshire St N and Northumberland. The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control, striking a yield sign. The driver suffered minimal injuries and was arrested at the scene. The vehicle sustained approximately $500 in damage and the yield sign was destroyed ($200 estimate). A 20-year-old Cambridge male will appear in court in April 2007 on charges of
Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 Mgs and Drive Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.

Motor Vehicle Collision – Today at 3:30 am Guelph Police attended a single motor vehicle collision involving a 2003 Chev Tracker black. The vehicle struck a utility pole at the intersection of Victoria Rd S and Elizabeth St. A 38-year-old Guelph male was taken to Guelph General Hospital and treated for non life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing. The vehicle was demolished as is valued at $8000.

Arrest-Drive Over 80 Mgs – Today at 2:30 am, Guelph Police conducted a traffic stop on Wellington St involving a 1991 Nissan Pathfinder. The driver, a 19 year old Guelph male, failed the roadside breathalyzer and will appear in court in April 2007 on the charge of Drive Over 80 Mgs.

Theft From Vehicle – On Tuesday at 5:50 pm, a Guelph female left her locked vehicle at the Centennial Arena parking lot for approximately five minutes. She had left her purse on the front seat. Upon her return to the vehicle she found that the passenger window of the vehicle had been smashed and the purse was gone. The victim’s purse contained a credit card that was used at two separate locations within minutes of the theft. The total value of the items purchased is approximately $700. The suspects are described as one male and one female, approximately 40 years of age. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact Guelph Police. Police remind the public to refrain from leaving valuables in vehicles when they are unattended.

POLICE AUCTION:

Guelph Police Service will hold a Property Auction on Thursday March 29th at John McCrae Legion, 919 York Rd. Viewing will commence at 5:00 pm and the auction will start at 6:00 pm. There will be tools, sports items, electronic equipment, cameras and 80 bicycles. Any further inquiries about the auction can be addressed to Cst. Gary Downing at ext. 338.
