Name: Roisin Lyder

Position: Academic & University Affairs Commissioner

Candidate Statement:

"My name is Roisin Lyder and I'm running for Academic and University Affairs Commissioner because I have a lot of respect for that the CSA does on behalf of students. I grew up hearing stories about the amazing things students can accomplish when they work together. My time as a student at the University of Guelph and as an active board member on the CSA has proven that this is true. I am continually impressed by all the wonderful services that the CSA is able to provide: the bus pass, the Bullring, the food bank, student advocacy... the list is extensive. When students work together we accomplish a lot! Since this is one of my core beliefs, I have spent the last few years working extensively with organizations, clubs and students across campus (some of the groups I've worked with longest are the Guelph Campus Co-op, GRCGED and the cannon website).

The Academic & University Affairs portfolio is a unique one.  I particularly look forward to providing academic advocacy for students and working on sustainability and accessibility initiatives. A large part of my portfolio involves working closely with the governing bodies of the university, and my approach to this will always be - STUDENT CONCERNS FIRST. As an experienced board member with extensive anti-oppression training, committed to student representation, I know I am the best choice for the position."
