Sporting some Gryphon pride
Cheering on the Gryphs
This homecoming weekend the Gryphons defeated the Toronto Varsity Blues 31-29. The new Alumni Stadium added to the incredible spirit of the day, as hundreds of fans gathered together to cheer on their favourite team. The stands were filled with students from across to board as they came to experience the weekend-long tradition that is U of G’s homecoming.
When asked for their thoughts on homecoming, fans didn’t hesitate to show their excitement and cheer.
“I go to York University, so I come here to see my best friend, but I have to say this is the funnest university to come and party with,” said Joanna Tharrenos, York University student.
“This is by far my favourite day at Guelph,” said Amanda DiFebo, third year Criminal Justice and Public Policy major. “Everybody just loves homecoming, [fans] get into the spirit and its just all around a good day. Everybody here loves Guelph, so they love to share the spirit.”
“It’s nice to see football back in Guelph after a long summer,” said Steve Holder, University of Guelph student.
“It’s phenomenal,” said Dan Nicoletta, a visiting student. “Everyone looks like they’re having a great time-- and it’s a good day!”
“It’s terrific, loud and obnoxious,” said Ashley Heenan, second year Sociology major.
“We don’t really know much about football,” said Lulu Rollinson, first year student. “But we support our team!”
