CFRU 93.3fm, Guelph’s campus and community radio station, is an organization that is well known for promoting underrepresented voices that truly reflect the diversity of Guelph’s communities. Understanding that silence serves no one, CFRU strives to uphold a philosophy of inclusivity in order to provide an alternative source of media, music programming, and local social justice and documentary work.
Each October, CFRU launches an annual fundraising campaign called, “Raise Your Voice” (RYV). This year, Raise Your Voice will take place between October 22nd and October 30th, on-air, on the University of Guelph campus, and at various locations in downtown Guelph. In keeping with our commitment to foster an environment that welcomes diversity, we will be devoting a large portion of this year’s fundraising efforts toward increasing accessibility within the radio station. Our goal is to purchase assistive technology and interior aids in order to better enable programmers and volunteers with disabilities to participate in the many activities we offer at CFRU.
In order to accomplish this year’s fundraising goal, we are partnering with the Canadian Disability Resource Council (CDRC), a registered charitable organization. As our administrative fundraising partner, the CDRC will be providing all donors who pledge funds in the amount of $25.00 and above a registered charitable tax receipt which can be applied as a tax credit when filing business or personal income tax.
Last year, we raised money to design and launch a new website at www.cfru.ca. The new site will launch on October 20th, 2011. Online donations through our website for this year’s funding drive will be possible. We hope that you will agree that reducing barriers and increasing accessibility at CFRU is an important initiative and will encourage community members to donate both to our station and to this cause.
