Athletes of the Week
Thursday, February 1, 2007
Yallin, a fourth year Biological Science student from Port
Colbourne, had two outstanding performances this past week for the women's basketball team. After dropping two games in a row the Gryphons needed a momentum swing in their direction. Yallin's impressive play fueled the Gryphons to victories over the Brock Badgers 64-61 and the Windsor Lancers 82-61. The point guard went off for a season-high 23 points over the Badgers. Overall she tallied 38 points, 13 assists and 11 steals on the week. The Gryphons sit third in their division with a 12-5 record.
Matt Brunsting, Track and Field
Brunsting, a second year Environmetrics student from Stirling, Ontario, ran a phenomenal 3000m race in McGill on the week-end to take gold against the deepest field in the CIS so far this season. Matt moved to the front from the gun and shadowed the leader as they tore through the early laps. Seven laps into the 15 lap race, Matt surged to the front and was chased by several veteran athletes whom he proceeded to burn off. Looking smooth the entire way he held the gap and won by a dominant seven seconds (8:25.24) to post the second fastest time in the CIS this season. The Gryphons team will now head to the York Invitational next weekend.
