Another chapter is about to be written in the Bullring’s history book. On Monday October 20th, after a full summer of renovations, one of U of G’s most unique and historic buildings will reopen its doors as a coffee house and eatery.

Although opening day is a highly anticipated event, project manager Michael Teppo maintains that the “real celebration” won’t begin until Thursday October 23rd when Waterloo-based reggae rockers The Jolly Llamas christen the venue’s stage.

And that is only the beginning.

Music-lovers can delight in the wide variety of talent that the Bullring plans to showcase on a regular basis. Boasting open-stage Wednesdays, jazz-filled Friday afternoons and live performances every Thursday and Saturday evenings, Teppo hopes to attract audiences and musicians alike to this cozy, acoustic-based venue.

Aside from its musical affairs, the ‘ring has a multitude of events planned including wine tasting, a Halloween party and recipe contests. When not playing host to performers and galas, the coffee house will offer a broad range of original, fresh food and drinks as well as a lounge area in which weary students can relax.

If you’re itching for a preview, the Bullring will be showcasing a live “Original Music Sampler” in the UC Courtyard on Thursday October 16th. Coffee samples will be available at the cannon on the 16th and 17th, and free food will be offered throughout the course of opening week.

Keeping with tradition, the Bullring has once again reinvented itself in an attempt to keep pace with the ever-changing University. Although past efforts have been relatively unsuccessful, the unique products and atmosphere offered by this business could make the building a campus staple once again.
